Abstract
Waste landfill in Kosovo is burdened with mixed (heterogeneous) waste, dominating organic wastes by over 40%. Water drainage streams other than concentrations of organic matter contain many other polluting elements. The purpose of the study is to evaluate some physico-chemical parameters of discharge of landfill streams. In the study are included the landfillsin Peja, Prizren, Podujeva and Gjilan. Organic waste at landfills affect the value of parameters such as pH, total suspended matter (MTS), total organic carbon (TOC), chemical oxygen demand (CHOD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), total nitrogen (NT) and total phosphorus (PT) and other parameters. High concentrations of these parameters in landfills show high levels of organic waste. Organic waste at the landfill passes into a process of physical, chemical and biological digestion. Treatment of landfills, it reduces polluted emissions in the environment.
Keywords: landfill waste, water discharge pollution
